“Protecting and providing for the needs of the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities”

The Arc of South Florida is a local chapter of The Arc, one of the largest volunteer organizations in the U.S. Founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents. The Arc of South Florida serves the over 1,000 Miami-Dade County citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Though still governed by volunteers through the Board of Directors the Arc of South Florida has grown into a major community agency, providing a variety of programs and services that affect hundreds of participants, their families and the community each and every day.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

There are more than a dozen programs and services provided by the Arc of South Florida each structured and designed to meet the specific needs of its individual clients. The departments heading up these programs and services are: Children & Youth, Adult Services, Advocacy & Guardianship and Trust Services.

Our History

The Arc of South Florida was founded in 1953 by a group of parents who were concerned about the lack of adequate programs and the denial of basic dignities to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Today, the organization employs more than 200 professionals who serve over 1000 program participants daily. The Arc of South Florida continues to act as the voice for all persons in South Florida with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
